FOMC decision — What to know in markets Wednesday
On Wednesday, The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will be concluding its two-day meeting, and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will hold a press conference at the conclusion of the event at 2:30 p.m. ET.
“Inflation has softened in the inter-meeting period, and expectations are building that the next move will be down rather than up. Incoming inflation data will guide the Fed’s discussion as well as Powell’s Q&A,” Morgan Stanley wrote in a note Friday.
Stock Trading for Beginners
What's your favorite buy setup?
Mine is a lower open in a strong stock. Notice there are two parts to the trade, strong stock AND a lower open. Without context a lower open seems like the stock is weak, but with obvious bullish order flow a lower open becomes a good trade.
As shown in this DIS chart, the best case scenario is when your stock is well-offered. This means lower lows, lower highs AND, closes in the lower 10% of the trading range.
Here is where the trade setup gets specific, we also WANT a lower open the next day. So the obvious question should be, “How far lower?”
Generally speaking I game plan for 50% of the stocks average true range to look for buyers to step back into the strong stock. For example: IF the “ATR” is $1, and the stock closed yesterday at $20 (on the lows) I am looking for a lower open and buyers to emerge @ $19.50.
Here is the complete setup:
- Bullish order flow.
- Well offered.
- Closes in the lower 10%.
- Opens lower, and pushes lower.
- Look for buyers at 50% of the daily ATR from yesterday's close.
** Look for buyers means we are looking for a bullish U-turn, a reversal pattern.
Here's the basic scan I use to fund these setups:
You can find the average true range if you click one of the stocks in the scan.
